The etterlings are considered to be the only civilized race native to Bastaliade, speculated to be the initial architects of the prison. Their history shattered by Spire’s persecution.
Personality: They prefer to use cooperation rather than go at it alone. They are cunning adversaries and excellent technicians. Most concern themselves with the well-being of the group.
Physical Description: Etterlings are typically as long as a human, with muscular forelegs accentuated with chitinous talons for climbing and moving across the ground. They have two sets of smaller arms located at the base of their neck for manipulating smaller objects. They are slightly heavier than humans due to the density of the strength in their legs, but have a lithe slender body. Their skin color is typically a dull hue, with the females being brighter and intricate alternate colored patterns across the carapace. The texture of their skin can range from exceptionally smooth, to scaly, and rocky chitinous growths. Etterling have 8 eyes 3 on each side of their face and a smaller pair in the front; the eyes are a solid glossy color. Two segmented lower mandibles separate outward while the etterling speaks or eats. When speaking the etterling manipulates these mandibles mimicking the sounds of other languages.
Relations: Etterlings are able to get along with other races, though their feelings to humans are strained. They get along the easiest with kobolds and gearbound. Other races find the appearance of etterlings unnerving.
Alignment: Etterlings are often lawful due to their devotion to building and maintaining mechanical creations.
Etterling Lands: A matriarchal society choosing a leader to act as a queen amongst a hive of insects. Segmenting powers to other high ranking matriarchs to deal with districts. The head of a family is the female who is responsible for the well-being. Etterlings prefer to handle disputes through talks and negotiations. This does not stop them from resolving matters with violence if a compromise can’t be resolved.
Religion: Etterlings are not drawn to religion like other races. Often skeptical of the motives of divine entities they take a technical view of the world around them. While some etterlings do embrace religions they look towards their own creations and seek out omens in the clockwork machines around them.
Language: Etterlings normally speak their own language and pick up on the common quite easily. The etterling language consists of clicking with their mandibles. Most races have a hard time of mimicking the proper clicks and sequences instead they use utensils or tinker with clockwork machines to properly emulate speech.
